This page shows a selection of my aluminium, velvet and metallic thread jewellery, and examples of pieces with shisha mirrors hand stitched onto dyed vilene.

The inspiration for the jewellery has evolved from a cross-pollination of two projects - one on the bower bird and the other on things washed up on the beach, which led in turn to a project entitled mixed media beaches.

The bower bird creates a bower, something akin to an Aladdin's cave, decorated with flowers and berries, anything bright, shiny, colourful - maybe stolen from nearby human habitation, or the neighbouring bower bird's bower!  There are various designs of bower created by different sorts of the species.  The one that captured my imagination the most was with a central pillar and mossy landing stage.

The mixed media beaches project led to various vessels of different sizes using an eclectic mix of materials.  The process of construction has evolved using free machining on water soluble firlm, aluminium and velvet with a metallic thread.  I have also experimented with shisha mirrors with heavy weight hand dyed vilene.
